McMahon vs Fujinami for Control of WWE[]

The universe began with Vince McMahon in control of the WWE, manipulating the world title picture to make sure personal favourites would be at the top. John Cena was the first world champion crowned at Payback, but Tatsumi Fujinami pulled off a shocking victory at Extreme Rules in order to capture the world title in a steel cage match. The next two PPVs were centred around Japan, following Fujinami's title victory. Despite this, Fujinami would lose the title to Batista at the Japan Supershow. This led to Beast In The East, where control of WWE was on the line in a match between Team McMahon and Team Fujinami. McMahon held onto power, even despite Kassius Ohno and John Cena turning on the owner to side with Team Fujinami.

McMahon vs DDP for Control of WWE[]

At Money In The Bank, DDP won the Super Money In The Bank ladder match which could be used to cash in on anything he wished for for up to one year. DDP would use that opportunity at SummerSlam to actually cash in on Vince McMahon's ownership of the WWE. That match ended in a DQ when Matt Hardy ran in to attack DDP, actually giving DDP control of the company. McMahon would be given a chance to regain ownership at Taboo Tuesday, where an iron man match between the two ended up in a draw. Following this, one last match was signed between Team McMahon and Team DDP for ultimate control of WWE. Triple H sided with DDP and Team McMahon ended up blowing a 4-1, with Triple H getting the final fall to ban McMahon from WWE until DDP decided to bring him back.

SummerSlam also saw Mankind win the world title in the main event, following winning the King of the Ring tournament beforehand. The title would change hands a number of times before Bret Hart captured the title at Starrcade.
